Position Summary

Community based Otolaryngologist position providing a high quality efficient service with access to elective and emergency operating room and ambulatory care clinic resources at Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital (OSMH) while maintaining a full-time practice in Orillia. Equal participation in provision of in-hospital regional outreach and on-call services.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

On-Call:
• Provision of regional on-call services

In-Patient:
• Consultation for OSMH credentialed staff and regional partners
• Peri-operative management of own patients.
• Participation and cooperation as a contributing team member.

Out-Patient:
• Provision of care for all patient types including surgical, pediatric, medical, and chronic care patients, sharing these different types of patients in an equitable and community-oriented manner with other members of the division.

Administrative and Quality:
• Participation in strategic planning and program development of otolaryngologist services.
• Participation in ongoing quality improvement and safety activities related to Otolaryngology care.
• Participation in hospital committees pertaining to specialty and as required by the credentialed staff by-laws.
• Provision of efficient and high-quality Otolaryngology service in-hospital and in the community.
• Efficient use of resources.

REMUNERATION:
• Fee for Service
• HOCC for on-call

Qualifications

This position is open to an Otolaryngology Surgeon who has an Ontario license and has been certified by the Royal College within the last five years.

Education:
• College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) unrestricted license that allows the physician to fulfil the requirements of this position.
• Fellowship in otolaryngology recognized by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC).

Experience:
• Previous Otolaryngology experience
• Must have demonstrated proficiency in otolaryngology procedures including excellent outcomes and efficient use of resources.

Competencies (RCPSC CanMEDS Competency Framework):
• Function effectively as a consultant, integrating all of the CanMEDS roles to provide optimal, ethical and patient-centred medical care,
• Establish and maintain clinical knowledge, skills and attitudes appropriate to your practice,
• Perform complete and appropriate assessments of patients,
• Use preventive and therapeutic interventions effectively,
• Demonstrate proficient and appropriate use of procedural skills, both diagnostic and therapeutic,
• Seek appropriate consultation from other health professionals, recognizing the limits of their expertise.

Other:
• Eligible for membership in the credentialed staff of Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital and potentially other regional hospitals.
• Demonstrate commitment to continued professional and personal growth and development through Continuing Education Programs and Self Directed Learning opportunities.
• Interest in locating permanently to the Orillia area to join the medical community professionally and personally.
