Position Summary

A community based general respirology position serving the community and region with opportunities for a focused interest in Bronchoscopy, Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Sleep Medicine, and/or Critical Care.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

On-Call:
• Provision of general internal medicine on-call for OSMH

In-Patient:
• Consultation to OSMH credentialed staff and regional partners in Respirology and Internal Medicine
• Interpretation of PFTs, ECGs etc.,
• Preference to participate in coverage of closed critical care unit with appropriate qualifications,
• Participation and cooperation as a contributing team member of the Department of Internal Medicine

Out-Patient:
• Consultative practice in Respirology serving the community and region, and
• Involvement with the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program, Asthma Clinic, Sleep Lab

Administrative and Quality:
• Participation in strategic planning and program development of Respirology services,
• Participation in ongoing quality improvement and safety activities related to Respirology,
• Participation in hospital committees pertaining to specialty and as required by the credentialed staff by-laws,
• Active participation in working towards the OSMH length of stay (LOS) target benchmark at the 25th percentile of Ontario Hospitals, and
• Efficient use of resources.

RESOURCES:
• Access to inpatient beds,
• Out-Patient clinics (Asthma clinic, CPAP clinic),
• Endoscopy clinic (shared time for Bronchoscopy),
• Sleep Lab, and
• Pulmonary Function Lab.

REMUNERATION:
• Fee for Service

Qualifications

Education:
• Licensed with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) as a specialist, independent practice or restricted that allows the physician to fulfil the requirements of this position:
• FRCP(c) in Internal Medicine or equivalent, and
• Fellowship in Respirology recognized by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or additional training in Respirology
• Additional education and training in Critical Care Medicine and/or Sleep Medicine preferred

Experience:
• Previous Respirology experience preferred.

Competencies (RCPSC CanMEDS Competency Framework):
• Function effectively as a consultant, integrating all of the CanMEDS roles to provide optimal, ethical and patient-centred medical care,
• Establish and maintain clinical knowledge, skills and attitudes appropriate to your practice,
• Perform complete and appropriate assessments of patients,
• Use preventive and therapeutic interventions effectively,
• Demonstrate proficient and appropriate use of procedural skills, both diagnostic and therapeutic, and
• Seek appropriate consultation from other health professionals, recognizing the limits of their expertise.

Other:
• Eligible for appointment to the credentialed staff of Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, and
• Demonstrate commitment to continued professional and personal growth and development through Continuing Education Programs and Self Directed Learning opportunities.



PATIENT SAFETY: ALL STAFF

Participates in and complies with hospital safety and infection control programs.

• Reports unsafe conditions,
• Assists in the reporting and investigation of incidents,
• Reviews related policies and procedures on a regular basis,
• Maintains patient and Hospital confidentiality,
• Responds appropriately to codes,
• Participates in quality activities, as required,
• Ensure compliance with the Hospital’s patient safety, staff safety policies and appropriate legislation, and
• Promotes patient safety and staff safety in the workplace.
