Position Summary

The Physician Surgical Assist plays a vital role in surgical procedures and work under the direction of the surgeon(s) to help perform surgery safely and in accordance with hospital policies. The Physician Surgical Assist will work with surgeons and the rest of the operating room team to ensure the safe outcome for surgical patients immediately before, during and immediately after surgery. This position summary applies to unattached patients without a local family physician.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: Provision of Surgical Assist for daytime and/or on-call for emergency cases in the OR and CSPA on weekdays, weekends and Statutory Holidays. Provision of assistance as directed by the operating surgeon. Support to the OR staff in caring for the patient

COMPENSATION: Fee for Service, HOCC for on-call.

Qualifications

• College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) unrestricted license that allows the physician to fulfil the requirements of this position, certified by the College of Family Physicians of Canada.
• Previous experience in hospital-based medicine is an asset but not required.
